Biomass boilers heat Yorkshire Riding centre

Ariterm, biomass, wood pellet, wood chip, renewable energy, space heating

One of Europe’s leading equestrian training centres has chosen Bio-Nordic to design and install a decentralised energy network based around a modular Ariterm biomass system. Two Biocomp PX 60 kW wood-pellet boilers are at the heart of the group-heating network at Yorkshire Riding Centre to heat several buildings — including the Courtyard Guest House, its adjacent accommodation block and other lodges and chalets.

The new system has replaced four separate oil-fired boilers plus multiple LPG and electric water heaters. The centre is off-grid.

The Ariterm boilers are connected to a 2400 l pre-insulated thermal accumulators vessel to provide a central heat store.

Each linked building has automatic zone controls and heat metering to individually supply and monitor heat according to the needs of each building.

Thermostatically controlled instantaneous DHW is also provided from the thermal store via a high-flow heating coil.

Chris Bartle (pictured), who runs the centre and who will be coaching the German Eventing Team at this year’s Olympic Games, explains, ‘Roughly a third of our clients are residential in some way. We needed to replace our old oil-fired boilers, and Bio-Nordic’s solution has future-proofed our heating system while also making long-term financial sense.’

Bio-Nordic helped the centre apply for the Renewable Heat Incentive.
