Elco updates school boiler installation

Elco, boilers, space heating

The complete refurbishment of the plant room of Horringer Court School in Bury St Edmunds includes five Thision L Evo boilers from Elco. They each have an output of 140 kW and have been arranged back to back in a free-standing cascade frame to maximise output in a restricted area.

These boilers have replaced two aging floor-standing pressure-jet units that had been in use for over 40 years.

Chris Jennings, director of Hydro Mechanical Services based in Sutton Coldfield, specified the boilers and the cascade frame. He explains, ‘The existing boilers were old and becoming problematic for the school so, after careful due diligence of the heating system and the requirements of a new design, we opted for the Thision L Evo boilers as the best replacement.’

The work was carried out during the school summer holidays.

Talking about the installation work, Chris Jennings said, ‘It’s the first time we’ve used the back-to-back arrangement, and the engineers on site really liked the flexibility and ease of assembly.’

Features of these boilers include a flat metal cold-flame burner for extremely low NOx emissions.
