Daikin adds solar-thermal option to heat-pump kit

Solar thermal energy can be added to Daikin’s Altherma heat-pump system using an adapter kit.
Daikin Europe now offers a solar kit for its Altherma heat-pump systems for space heating in houses and the supply of hot water to generate domestic hot water using solar energy. The kit comprises a heat exchanger and an insulated circulator pump, which is mounted on the existing 200 or 300 l Altherma water tank. An electronic card provides the necessary communication between the various elements in the system. Altherma produces hot water in a purpose-designed stainless-steel tank, and the solar kit enables this tank to be connected to a field-supplied solar collector. The kit can be connected to current solar-heating systems and incorporates control software that enables it to prioritise hot-water production via the solar collector. In warmer climates, the temperature of the hot water can be as high as 90°C on the sunniest days of the year.
