London’s Savoy hotel has undergone a three-year restoration

London’s prestigious Savoy Hotel reopens in Autumn 2010 after a £220 million refurbishment that has taken three years to complete.

The hotel closed in December 2007 for one of the most ambitious restoration projects in British history. The construction team included contractors Chorus Group and architects ReardonSmith, which specialises in the hotel sector. The team has worked to recreate the two main design aesthetics: Edwardian and Art Deco.

Highlights of the refurbishment include the installation of a glass dome over a winter garden, and a glass-enclosed fitness gallery and rooftop swimming pool — one of only a few in London.

The hotel has also introduced an ‘eco-programme’ with the refurbishment, which includes water reduction and energy-saving equipment. Low-energy lighting and a comprehensive recycling programme have also been introduced.
