Riegens shines light on medical research

Riegens, Lighting, luminaire
Riegens Lighting luminaires are used through a new research building at Cambridge Biomedical Campus.

Lighting for the new 30 000 m2 Laboratory of Modular Biology building at Cambridge Biomedical Campus is provided by a range of luminaires from Riegens Lighting. The luminaires for the Medical Research Council’s building include bespoke Mirac recessed modular fittings. There are two laboratory wings separated by a spacious atrium, giving a shape that is reminiscent of paired chromosomes.

This laboratory can accommodate over 400 researchers and has been designed to ensure maximum flexibility for the future. Consultants K. J. Tait selected a range of luminaires from Riegens.

For laboratories and equipment rooms, nearly 3000 Mirac 1200 x 300 recessed modular fluorescent fittings were specially adapted to fit into the special ceiling. Each fitting has a 28 W T5 florescent lamp, and control gear is accessible from below the ceiling for maintenance.

In communications and hardware rooms, Blocks suspended luminaires were selected for their excellent light distribution and even illumination on vertical surfaces. In meeting rooms, Concido recessed downlights have been installed.

Other fittings include Cirrus TLO fittings in offices and seminar rooms.

Wieland Electric supplied its Gesis18i5 connectors throughout the building via its master distribution boxes. All lighting is controlled through a Delmatic DALI-based system. Emergency-lighting fittings are equipped with Tridonic EM-pro ballasts to enable automatic testing.
