Mausoleum enjoys natural light

Maximising light gain and minimising heat loss, Structura’s Kalcurve system was used in the roof of this mausoleum in Canada.

Flooding the central concourse of this mausoleum in Canada with diffused natural light is the highly insulated translucent roof made from Structura’s Kalwall. The design concept devised by Young + Wright/IBI Group architects expresses the spiritual character of Our Lady of Hope Mausoleum by its extraordinary shape and the way in which it maximises the ingress of daylight.

Entered under a large cantilevered canopy, the building is symmetrical, with its major elements along its north axis. The dramatic break of the building occurs along its central concourse, where the raised organically shaped roof floods the interior with light, which is achieved by imaginative use of the design flexibility and daylighting performance of the Kalwall building system.

These panels are normally supplied flat, but they were made to order for this project in the Kalcurve variation.
