Thorn adds new light for building refurbishment

Thorn Lighting, lighting, luminaires, lighting fittings

Luminaires from Thorn Lighting have played an important role in the overall design of The Charter Building, a 22 600 m2 high-specification design-led workspace in Uxbridge. It is just 100 m from Uxbridge Underground Station. The project involved the original building, that was once the UK headquarters for Coca Cola, being stripped back to its structural frame, floor plates extended and a penthouse floor with access to a roof terrace added.

The project is a joint venture between Landid and Brockton Capital.

Thorn’s custom division worked with Derry Building Services as M&E design-and-build contractor for the project to design an extremely efficient lighting scheme that fitted the brief.

The lighting scheme includes square-edge continuous-row fittings that incorporated one control per three luminaires and emergency lighting.

Thorn provided a variety of designs for review that were submitted to the customer for approval. Once the initial design was approved, Thorn provided mock ups of the fittings and worked with DBS to ensure maximum efficiency was achieved on optics to achieve to achieve the required BREEAM rating.

The final luminaire was named Stealth Charter, and a white finish was chosen. Thorn and DBS then devised a plan for the layouts in each area.
