How big is your water footprint?

A freely available online water-footprint calculator has been developed by Shawn Coles, founder of Water Saving Week, sponsored by Roca. The average amount of water consumed per person per day in the UK is about 150 l, rising to 168 l in London. That use is for drinking water, toilet flushing, bath, washing machines etc.

However, a person’s overall consumption is over 4600 l per day as water embedded in products we drink and eat. For example, it takes 70 l of water to produce one apple, 140 l to produce one cup of coffee and 15 500 l to product 1 kg of beef.
