Energy savings of £10 000 year, and other benefits, are expected in this print works with a simple lamp-replacement programme.

A simple change of lamps from 400 W to 350 W metal-halide lamps from Venture Lighting Europe has significantly reduced energy consumption and maintenance costs for Howitt, an integrated marketing-support and print provider. The company’s facility at Sutton in Ashfield covers about 8400 m2, with lighting in constant use, and the new lighting is expected to save about £10 000 a year.

The Venture Uni-Form Pulse Start 350 W lamps were installed with a reactor/ignitor ballast system designed to produce the best performance from the lamp as part of an energy-saving conversion kit with no change to lux levels. They also have a longer life of up to 20 000 h and faster warm-up time.

The new lighting is also much closer to daylight than the original lighting, and Howitt is now looking to convert other production areas using Venture’s lamps and conversion kits.
