B.E.G. delivers lighting efficiency for electrical solutions business

Building-automation specialist B.E.G. has delivered an integrated lighting-control strategy for the new premises of electrical-engineering company Darke & Taylor in Blenheim Office Park at Long Hanborough in Oxfordshire. Not only does the system provide effective control for individual rooms, but, as Simon Newton, commercial director with Darke & Taylor, explains, ‘An added advantage is that we can demonstrate the benefits of these technologies to existing and potential customers.’

B.E.G. carried out a lighting survey before recommending a range of products to meet the different requirements of the individual rooms.

The lighting-control strategy involved using three separate occupancy sensors that were the most suitable and provide the biggest savings for the individual rooms.

The sensor for the open-plan main office continuously evaluates the availability of daylight to control artificial light.

In offices where CAD work is carried out, a master-type DALI dimming sensor is used. It is designed for daylight control of rooms where there is little movement.

In fast-traffic areas such as the lobby, stairs and toilets, switch-in sensors are used. B.E.G. also supplied its IR-RC adapter so that all sensors can be controlled by Darke & Taylor’s facilities-management team via the B.E.G. smartphone app.

Dan Wootten, project and design engineer with Darke & Taylor, summarises, ‘I have previously used B.E.G. lighting control products on a number of projects for clients. When I was given the responsibility for the electrical design and installation at our new office facility, it was an easy decision to involve B.E.G. in ensuring I was able to deliver an energy efficient solution that met the demands of a busy working office space.’
