Heat pumps will be the most sensible way of introducing renewable energy into existing buildings, according to the Government’s Renewable Advisory Board, set up to advise the Government on renewable energy and made up of representatives from the energy and renewables industries, consulting engineers and academics.
Briggs & Forrester wins Milton Keynes fit-out contract

Building-services contractor Briggs & Forrester has been awarded a £1 million fit-out contract by Marriott Construction on behalf of client Delloite & Touch in Milton Keynes. The fit-out is part of the Pinnacle Project, a 23 000 m2 development due to be completed in June 2009. The building is serviced from the Milton Keynes CHP infrastructure and will achieve a BREEAM ‘excellent’ rating.
IES claims first EPC using dynamic simulation

The City of York is trialling Vaillant’s solar DHW system in a property in the village of Wheldrake to the south east of York, which is expected to halve the cost of DHW. British Gas Housing Services Group is installing the auroTHERM solar panels, an ecoTEC plus condensing system boiler and a 200 litre auroSTOR cylinder.

A 450 kW biomass boiler from Broag has replaced three elderly oil-fired boilers at Stradbroke Business & Enterprise College in Suffolk and is reducing carbon emissions by around 120 t a year. The school has some 370 pupils. The boiler was specified by Suffolk County Council and installed by the Ipswich branch of Elyo Services.
