How Raychem’s HWAT helps prevent legionella

Raychem, HWAT, DHW, domestic hot water, trace heating

Pentair describes its Raychem HWAT systems as the intelligent and safe way to supply instant hot water at the tap. The single-pipe direct hot-water service incorporates a smart self-regulating heating cable to provide a proven and precise method of delivering hot water at a constant temperature throughout an entire network. It eliminates the need to recirculate water and eradicates dead legs.

With no dead legs, there are no untraced pipes where water temperatures can drop the near 37°C, with the potential for legionella to thrive.

Pipework networks can also be shorter as there is no need for recirculation pipes. The space saved could be used for thicker insulation to save energy.

The combination of HWAT-R heating cable and the HWAT-ECO controller enables a desired temperature to be selected and the temperature increased for a time for legionella prevention. As such, the HWAT-ECO controller can be programmed for a legionella-prevention cycle.
